Oats Tikki / Cutlet / Patty

Oats is a wonder cereal with which you can dish out many easy, simple and delicious recipes. It is both healthy, wholesome and nutritious as it is low in calories. It is good for young and old alike and is diabetic friendly.

Today I would like to share Oats Tikki that can be a great tea time snack or can be served as an appetizer with green chutney or sauce. They can also be packed for a lunch box meal too. So check an easy step by step pictorial recipe to prepare it.

  • 1 cup oats, dry roasted
  • 1/4 cup moong dal (split green gram), soaked for 2-3 hours
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp. garlic, grated
  • 1-2 green chilies, chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp. nigella seeds (kalonji)
  • oil to shallow fry

Grind the soaked moong dal with very less water into a paste. Mix with rest of the  ingredients (except oil) into a dough.

Divide into small equal portions and give any shape you desire. Refrigerate for a couple of minutes.

Heat 1-2 tbsp. oil in a pan and shallow fry these tikkis in batches till they are light golden in colour.

Drain on a kitchen towel and serve as an appetizer along with green chutney / sauce or as a tea-time snack.
